How to Scrape PyPI Package Metadata
Export exact Python package versions, dependencies, maintainers, licenses, classifiers, and links from PyPI.

Python package pages contain useful metadata, but copying them by hand does not scale into an inventory or recurring review. The PyPI Package Scraper accepts exact project names and returns one normalized row for every valid package.
Fetch a small package set
Use canonical names from requirements files or lockfiles rather than guessed keywords.
{"packageNames":["requests","pandas","fastapi"],"maxResults":3}The output includes latest version, summary, Python requirement, dependency strings, maintainers, license metadata, classifiers, project URLs, and current vulnerability records supplied by PyPI. Preserve name as the package identity and store the source URL for review.
Validate several fields against the project page. Publisher metadata can be incomplete: author and maintainer names may be null, license values vary, and project links use inconsistent labels. Treat absence as source information rather than filling it with assumptions.
For an internal inventory, collect exact top-level dependencies first. PyPI metadata describes published requirements, which can contain environment markers and extras; it does not resolve the complete environment-specific dependency graph. Use a lockfile or package manager for that job.
Save the input as a Task when monitoring is needed. Upsert by normalized package name and keep a snapshot timestamp if version history matters. A bounded exact-lookup workflow is more dependable than relying on retired search interfaces, and it gives each downstream record a direct official project reference.
Keep package selection under version control so additions and removals from the monitored inventory have a reviewable business reason.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Actor search PyPI by keyword?
No. It uses supported exact project lookups because legacy XML-RPC search was retired.
Does a missing project stop the batch?
No. Missing names are logged and remaining exact packages continue.
